Call for proper regulation of slaughterhouses

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a workshop on 'Modern Slaughterhouse Practices and Prevailing Acts and Bye Laws for Regulation of Slaughterhouses', ALPCO Director Apurba Kumar Patar said his undertaking has taken up initiatives towards development of animal husbandry sector.

Pator said that for maintenance of public health and channelising the meat sector, three meat processing plants have been set up in Guwahati for processing of pork, sheep/ goat and poultry.

"These plants have been functional under public private partnership (PPP)," he said, and stressed on importance of generating mass awareness about the prevailing acts and bye laws for regulation of slaughterhouses.

 

Speaking on the occasion, College of Veterinary Science Dean R N Goswami said that introduction of scientific and hygienic approaches in the practice of slaughtering is important, besides steps for regulating the existing slaughterhouses in Assam.

NEC Food Processing Private Ltd Managing Director Subrata Bhattacharya said that his company has ventured into processed meat products in the state in partnership with ALPCO.
