A phone call to a top police official informing him that some "Maoists" were travelling in an Express train, turned out to be a hoax after a search of all coaches at the railway station here revealed nothing.

M R Sibi Chakravarthy, Superintendent of Police said he received a phone call at around 9 AM, telling him that some Maoists were travelling in the Shalimar-Nagercoil express train, arriving here at 9.30 AM.

He said a team of police personnel, bomb disposal squad, RPF squad and Railway police rushed to the station and checked the ID cards of all passengers after the train arrived here.

After an hour's search, the train was allowed to leave at 11 AM.

As a precautionary measure, police also checked other trains which arrived at the station. Police personnel were also posted at the railway station, he said.

District police sources said they are trying to trace the caller.
