Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Thursday said highly sophisticated cameras would be installed on accident prone stretch of national highways in the state to check speeding vehicles.
Inaugurating a symposium on 'Traffic Management and capacity building', Deb said to ensure road safety and reduce accidents the state government would impose steep fine up to Rs 10,000 on speeding vehicles.
"If steep fines are imposed on speeding vehicles then the drivers would limit their speeds which will help reduce road accidents," Deb said.
The Director General Police, Rajiv Singh said that the number of road accidents has been rising in Tripura.
Last year a total of 2,013 deaths occurred due to road accidents in the state, the DGP said.
