The one-month campaign will be inaugurated by member of the parliament K Sudhakaran on May 13, office bearers of the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC) said.

The move comes after it was recently revealed that an Indian commits suicide every sixth day in Oman owing to financial stress or personal problems.

"By saving a life, we can save a family. Suicidal tendencies occur when people fail to cope with mental stress. We know that tackling suicidal tendencies is not an easy task but we will do our best to save lives through our campaign," N O Omman, general secretary, Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), said.

"During the campaign, we will visit schools, offices, labour camps and social clubs and conduct awareness against suicides. Many psychologists and medics have extended their help for this initiative. Even some of the hospitals in Oman are ready to give a helping hand to combat this evil," Omman said.

A total of 25 Indians have committed suicide in different parts of Oman since the beginning of the year, reports said.
