Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today said the state cannot force the private industries to employ local youths.

"There is no law which can force the private investors to employ only local youths. We can make such things compulsory in government sector," Parsekar told the State Legislative Assembly during Question hour.

The Chief Minister was responding to a question raised by Congress legislator Vishwajit Rane over forcing private sector to employ 80 per cent of the Goans.

Parsekar said Investment Promotion Board (IPB) during the clearance of the investment proposals make it mandatory for the investors to have 80 per cent local employees.

"We are also monitoring that they do take maximum Goans. But we cannot make law forcing them to take 80 per cent Goans," the CMsaid.

Rane raising the question asked whether there is any mechanism in place to ensure that the private investors employ 80 per cent Goans in their ventures.

Parsekar said the intent of the investors to take 80 per cent Goans would be clear only when their plants are commissioned.

"Right now IPB has only given clearance for the projects. The employment would be generated only after the plants are commissioned," he said.
