A Canada-based NRI was today booked on the charges of alleged bigamy while three of his family members for harassing his wife for dowry, police said.

A case under different Sections of IPC, including Section 494 (marrying again during lifetime of a husband or wife), was lodged against Canada-based NRI Sarabjit Singh, his father Satwant Singh, mother Mohinder Kaur and paternal aunt Kuldip Kaur on a complaint by Paramjit Kaur, who claims to be NRI's first wife, police said here.

According to police, the complainant said she was married to Sarabjit of village Sangowal in Jalandhar district in April 1995 and they had two children.

Paramjit, in her complaint, said her husband went abroad in 2010 with his paternal aunt Kuldip Kaur of nearby village Chachoki and never contacted her thereafter, adding that her in-laws, in the meantime, started harassing her for more dowry and forced her to leave their home to live with her parents in Nakodar, police said.

She alleged that her husband had married again without her knowledge abroad and his three family members were a party to it.

After enquiring into the matter, police booked her NRI husband and his three family members. However, no arrest had yet been made in this regard.
