A flight from Canada to Mexico carrying about 150 passengers made an emergency medical landing in western Montana after encountering extreme turbulence that injured a flight attendant.

Sunwing Airlines spokeswoman Janine Chapman says the Boeing 737 landed around 7:30 am (local time) yesterday at Helena Regional Airport.

She says a medical team cleared the male flight attendant, and there are no other reported injuries.

But Chapman says another aircraft is being sent from the company's headquarters in Toronto to pick up the passengers so the initial plane can be examined for damage. The second jet was expected to arrive in Helena yesterday evening.

She says the passengers who boarded Flight 559 in Edmonton, Alberta, are mostly families heading to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for vacation.
