Candidate's ability to win criterion for seat sharing: Chavan

Makes it clear that the final decision on seat-sharing will be taken by the high commands.

Press Trust of India Pune
Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiraj Chavan on Wednesday said seat sharing between Congress and NCP for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections should be decided on the criteria of the candidate's ability to win.

"The candidate of the Congress-NCP front should be decided on the basis of his capacity to win the seat and there should not be an adamant posture on the issue," Chavan said addressing a farmers' rally at Dhairi near here.

He, however, made it clear that the final decision on seat-sharing between the two coalition partners will be taken by their respective high commands.

MPCC president Manikrao Thakre, however, said that the seat sharing formula for the upcoming polls should be Congress 29 and NCP 19, on the basis of performance in the last elections.

Chavan also tried to play down his newly acquired membership of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) saying " I have only become a member and there is nothing special about it".
