Cannabis worth Rs 1 crore seized; two held in Andhra Pradesh

Cannabis worth around Rs one crore was today seized and two persons arrested for allegedly smuggling the contraband at Narsipatnam town in the district, police said.

2,010 kg of cannabis was being smuggled to East Godavari from here in an oil tanker, Narsipatnam Town police station Inspector RVRK Chowdhary said.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the tanker and seized 1,005 packets of cannabis, each weighing 2 kgs, he said.

The accused were identified as tanker's driver S Ganesh (24) and its cleaner GRK Babu (21), the officer said.

Tanker's owner P Venkateswara Rao and his business partner B Somalingam, both residents of Pithapuram in East Godavar were also allegedly involved in the smuggling the contraband, he added.
 

A case under section 20 (B) of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered and investigations are underway, police said.
