The football loving state of Goa received another setback after defending champions Cape Verde decided not to send their football team for the the Lusofonia Games citing "budgetary reasons" and "lack of time".

Cape Verde Football Federation (FCF) President Mario Semedo while speaking to Radio de Cabo Verde, invoked "budgetary reasons" and "lack of time for preparation" for not fielding a team capable of defending the gold medal won during the last edition in Lisbon.

However, the small island nation, has given an "in-principle" confirmation to Lusofonia Games Organising Committee to field its teams in five disciplines -- judo, basketball, athletics, volleyball and taekwondo, depending on release of funds by the Association of Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP).

Top football playing nations like Brazil and Portugal too are unlikely to take part, official sources said.
