A six-day-long centenary film festival is being organised here next week to mark the 100 years of Indian cinema with special screenings of classic and contemporary films.

The festival will commence on April 25 and will be inaugurated with an exhibition titled 'Indian Cinema 100 (Celebrating a Century: An Audio Visual Voyage)' by I and B Minister Manish Tewari.

The highlight of the inaugural programme of the festival will be the screening of silent film 'Throw of Dice' with live musical orchestra by Nishat Khan.

A play on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke by Aamir Raza Hussain will mark the end of the festival on April 30.

Seeking to bring the festival to the doorstep of film lovers in the Capital, programmes will be held at Siri Fort auditorium, Jamia Milia University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and India Habitat Centre, a statement issued by the I and B Ministry said here.

The film extravaganza will include screenings of some classics as well as contemporary Indian films by renowned directors including Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, Shyam Benegal and Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

The celebrations will come to an end with the National Film Award ceremony on May 3. The prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award will also be conferred by the President on the same day.
