Captured wild tusker dies of ailment at forest camp

A wild tusker died apparently owing to a stomach ailment at a forest camp near Shivamogga on Saturday.

The elephant Naganna, believed to be over 30 years old, showed symptoms of the ailment as the tusker was very slow in its movement, according to its mahout.

Medicines were given, but the animal did not respond to the treatment and died, deputy conservator of forest S J Chandrashekhar told PTI.

However, the forest department was awaiting a forensic report to ascertain the exact cause of the death, said Chandrashekhar.

Naganna was captured from the Bhadrawati forest division and kept at the Shivamogga forest camp.
