The car belonging to a woman BJP councillor parked outside her house here was set afire by unidentified persons in the early hours of today, police said.

Vatsala, representing ward number one, woke up from sleep after neighbours alerted her after noticing the car in flames around 3 AM today, police said.

She, with the help of the neighbours doused the fire, which partially damaged the vehicle, and lodged a police complaint.

Vatsala suspected that this could be the handiwork of some political rivals, since BJP had garnered good number of votes from her ward, in the recently held mayoral by-polls.
