Police today seized Rs 4.85 lakh from a vehicle which also allegedly carried visiting cards as well as clothes of a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader.

Speaking to reporters here, Parbhani Superintendent of Police Anant Rokde said on complaints that money was being distributed to voters in the tehsil, police and revenue department officials resorted to strict checking of vehicles.

Gangakhed Police intercepted the Scorpio vehicle and seized the amount kept in two bags.

The driver of the vehicle, who has been identified as Krushna Hazare, claimed that the clothes belonged to an NCP leader.

The information was passed onto sub-divisional police officer Shankar Kangare who ordered that the vehicle, which was intercepted when it was heading towards Latur from Parbhani, be brought to the police station.

Rokde said that the case has been transferred to the election department and further action would be initiated after its opinion.

No case has been registered as yet, he said.
