A car, belonging to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), caught fire in central Delhi today, resulting in a traffic congestion on the road connecting ITO to east Delhi, a senior police officer said.

The incident occurred near the ITO around 7:40 pm.

The officer said that a NTPC official was in the car and the driver stopped the vehicle when he saw smoke coming out from the bonnet.

They managed to leave the vehicle before it burst into flames, the officer said.

The fire department pressed two fire tenders to douse the blaze. For around 30 minutes, traffic crawled on the stretch as the firefighting operations were going on, he said.
