Car parking project in Mullaperiyar:SC for amicable settlement

The Supreme Court today asked Tamil Nadu and Kerala to amicably settle their dispute over a car parking project in the Mullaperiyar dam reservoir.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra was informed that both the states were negotiating on the issue and their chief ministers were expected to hold a meeting in the second week of December.

"It is submitted ....that both the states are negotiating and there is possibility of arriving at a solution. In view of the aforesaid, let the matter be listed in the first week of February 2018," the bench, which also comprised Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said.
 

The Tamil Nadu government had approached the apex court alleging that car parking was being built in the core area of Periyar tiger reserve near Mullaperiyar dam reservoir.

It had claimed that there was no permission from the Centre to built the car parking and it was being built in violation of the Forest Act.
