Car procession held at Tirunallar after 100 years

Hundreds of devotees today witnessed the car festival of the Dharbaranyeswara Swamy temple, popularly known as Lord Saneeswara shrine, at Tirunallar in the district.

This is the first time after 100 years, the deities of the temple were being taken in procession in five cars, temple authorities said.

Temple authorities said until this year, the temple had only two cars that were used in the festival.This year, three more cars have been added. "The temple used to have five cars and the tradition has now been restored," they said.

Earlier on Thursday, the deities were placed on rishaba vahanam and maha deeparadhana was performed.
 

On Saturday, the idol of Lord Saneeswara will be taken in a procession. The Brahmotsavam festival, which commenced on May 15, will conclude on May 31 with the float festival.
