Carcass of Irrawaddy dolphin found

The carcass of an Irrawaddy dolphin was found near Satabhaya-Ekakula beach in Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary in Kendrapara district, officials said today.

The carcass has been sent to veterinary surgeons to ascertain the exact cause of the aquatic animal's death. The body bore no external injury mark, they said.

A head count exercise of dolphins is going to be undertaken on February 12 along the brackish water bodies of Bhitarkanika National Park and marine sanctuary, the officials said.
