Decomposed carcasses of an adult elephant and a calf were recovered in Dhenkanal forest division in Odisha today, forest officials said.
The bodies were found near Raghubal village under Mahabirada forest range in Parjang block of Dhenkanal district, they said.
According to Assistant Forest Conservator Jitendranat Das, the locals spotted the carcasses in the forest near Raghubala village and informed the forest department.

Postmortem has been carried out to assertain the cause of the death of the two jumbos.
An investigation has begun, an official said adding, the elephnats might have died around five days back.
The exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained, he said.
