Carcasses of elephants found in forest range

Carcasses of two elephants, which died of ailments, have been found in the forests near here, officials today said.

District Forest Officer of Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve Rajkumar said forest officials on patrol duty yesterday found the carcass of a 15-year-old tusker at Varakombai in the Sikkarasampalayam forest range.

He said the carcass of a 20-year-old female elephant was found about 500 metres from the place and a veterinarian declared that both animals died of ailments.

Officials said there was no foul play in the death of the two elephants.

The carcasses were buried in the nearby area.
