Carcasses of three elephants, including a calf, were today found in a forest in Odisha's Deogarh district, a forest official said.
Decomposed carcasses of two female elephants and the calf were spotted by residents of nearby villages at Asurkhol under Prabhasuni Reserve Forest of Deogarh range, the official said.
Forest officials have rushed to the spot and efforts are on to ascertain the circumstances that led to the death of the animals, they said adding the pachyderms were suspected to have died 8-10 days ago.
The bodies are being sent for postmortem which could throw light on the cause of their death, the official said.
