Cardamom prices rose 0.80 per cent to Rs 1,054 per kg in futures trade today as investors upped their exposure amid an increase in physical demand for cardamom at the domestic spot market.

Besides, tight supplies from major producing regions supported the upside.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in August rose by Rs 8.40, or 0.80 per cent, to Rs 1,054 per kg with trading volume of 17 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in September increased by Rs 4, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 990 per kg in six lots.

Traders said widening of positions by participants, driven by surge in demand at the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly kept cardamom prices elevated in futures trade.
