Cardamom prices shot up by 1.97 per cent to Rs 994.20 per kg in futures trade today, extending yesterday's gain, as speculators engaged in enlarging their positions, tracking a firm trend at spot market on strong demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in July was trading higher by Rs 19.20, or 1.97 per cent, to Rs 994.20 per kg, in a business turnover of 14 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions by participants on the back of strong demand in the spot market against tight stocks position on restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly kept cardamom prices higher at futures trade.
