Cardamom futures were up 0.77 per cent to Rs 763 per kg on the first trading day of 2016 today as participants enlarged their positions, tracking a firm trend at spot market on rising demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in far-month February rose by Rs 5.80, or 0.77 per cent to Rs 763.00 per kg in business turnover of 61 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in January contracts traded higher by Rs 3.90, or 0.51 per cent to Rs 765 per kg in 168 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions on the back of rising demand at the spot market against restricted supplies from producing belts, led to the rise in cardamom prices at futures trade.
