Cardamom prices surged 3.10 per cent to Rs 824 per kg in futures trade today as speculators indulged in creating fresh positions, driven by strong domestic as well as exports demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in August month jumped up by Rs 24.80, or 3.10 per cent to Rs 824 per kg in business turnover of 2 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in September contracts edged up by Rs 3.90, or 0.50 per cent to Rs 789 per kg in 65 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators supported by strong domestic and exports demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from growing regions, mainly led to upsurge in cardamom prices at futures trade.
