Press Trust of India New Delhi
Medical equipment maker Opto Circuits today said its group firm Cardiac Science has received US health regulator's approval to market 'Powerheart G5' automated external defibrillator (AED), in the American market.

Cardiac Science Corporation has received market clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its Powerheart G5 allowing the company to begin selling the AED later this year along with its successful Powerheart G3 product line, Opto Circuits (India) said in a statement.

External defibrillators are medical devices that diagnose life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms, or cardiac arrhythmia, and deliver electrical energy to the heart to restore its normal rhythm.

"This news is a testament to the commitment shown by our employees who have spent many years of developing, testing and refining the Powerheart G5," Opto Circuits (India) Chairman and Managing Director Vinod Ramnani said.

The Powerheart G5 will be available for purchase in the United States later this year, the company said.
