Cardiologist arrested for taking bribe

The Head of Cardiology department at NIMS Dr D Seshagiri Rao was caught red-handed by ACB officials yesterday at the hospital for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.6 lakh from a complainant in exchange for doing an official favour, a statement by the ACB said today.

The complainant, former MP G Atma Charan Reddy, who is Managing Director of Charan Medical Devices and Cardiac Medical Devices Pvt Ltd, had approached the anti-corruption agency alleging that the doctor demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe for each of the 16 stents supplied by his firm.

The doctor demanded bribe for the 16 stents supplied by the complainant's company which were already implanted (in patients between September and November 2012), the release said.

 

The bribe amount was recovered from his office and he was arrested late last night, the ACB said, adding the case was under investigation.
