Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the world's largest hotel groups, is looking to further strengthen its presence in India, mainly though its upper midscale brands, a senior company executive has said.

"The Group's India portfolio comprises 140 hotels in operation and under various stages of development across 60 cities in India, including 16 state capitals. This year, 14 are to be signed and eight are anticipated to open by year- end.

"We are mainly seeing expansion in our upper midscale brands Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn by Radisson brands," Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group President, Asia Pacific, Thorsten Kirschke told PTI here.

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group's dominant position in India and steady growth in this important market demonstrates the strength of our brands and expertise, he said.

"As one of the leading international hospitality operators in India, we have established a nationwide presence through a deep understanding of this key market. We remain fully committed and believe in accelerating our growth through new strategic partnerships and opportunities," he added.

Through 2016, the hospitality group's portfolio of hotels in India saw healthy underlying business performance with a robust development trajectory.

Its revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth was at 7.2 per cent, more than the market growth of 4.7 per cent.

"Our growth is complemented by strong operating performance. Despite pressure from increased supply, we have made gains in market share, improved profit margins and raised Net Promoter Score (NPS). This sets us on pace to have 170 hotels in our India portfolio by 2020," Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, Chief Executive Officer, South Asia, Raj Rana said.

Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group is one of the world's largest hotel groups and includes 1,400 hotels in operation and under development with more than 2,20,000 rooms and a footprint spanning 115 countries and territories.
