Thane rural police have registered a case against a postmaster for misappropriation of cash from the office.

Sneha Patil (47), the accused, worked as a postmaster at Vashind post office.

Between January 2011 and December 2015, the cash handed over by the customers was not deposited in their saving accounts and Patil instead pocketed it, police said.

In total, she misappropriated Rs 13,13,500, police said.

She only updated the saving account books of the customers without actually depositing the cash.

Based on a complaint by the Assistant Postal Superintendent, a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust by a public servant was registered yesterday, but no arrest had been made yet, police said.
