A case has been registered today against a school at Harduaganj town in the district after a number of students were taken ill following consumption of expired biscuits distributed to them on the occasion of Independence Day.

The children, studying in Gyandeep Shishu Mandir Public School, had to be rushed to different hospitals, including the Deen Dayal Hospital in the district after they complained of nausea, police said.

On receiving this information, senior officials led by the district magistrate Rajiv Routela rushed to the government hospital to monitor the emergency medical treatment of the victims, all in the age group of six and 16 years.

Routela said that preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the biscuits had been provided as a promotional offering by a well known factory of the country on the occasion of the Republic Day earlier this year.

The biscuits, which had been left over on the Republic Day, were stored by the school authorities after the expiry date and were offered on August 15.

The DM added that today an FIR had been filed against the school authorities by the family of one of the children.
