A case has been registered against the teacher who allegedly thrashed a boy in a Veda class, the video footage of which had gone viral on social media.
The video of the teacher Shyam Sundara Shastry beating up the 10-year-old boy at a Veda class in Panchalingeshwara temple at Vittal in Bantwal taluk had caused public outrage and Dalit Seva Samiti leader B K Sheshappa had filed a police complaint after watching the clip.
Sources at the temple said the boy, a class 3 student, was beaten up and abused for sitting in a chair meant for former chieftains of Vittal.

In the video, the boy is seen pleading to the teacher not to hurt him while the latter was beating him repeatedly asking whether he was a 'Brahmin or Kshatriya'.
The boy had fractured his right hand a few weeks before the assault, which took place in April, sources said.
It was not clear who filmed the incident on a mobile camera, which was flashed on social media on September 8.
The accused has been charged under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), police sources said.
