Thane police today registered FIR against Deputy Mayor Mukesh Mokashi and several others in connection with ransacking of the cabin of former deputy mayor Milind Patankar on December 23, following the election for chairmanship of the municipal transport committee.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-I, Ashok Dudhe said that case was registered against BJP leader Mokashi, BJP leader in the TMC Sanjay Waghule, Bala Raut of Shiv Sena and others.

The FIR states that these three and 15 to 20 others ransacked Patankar's cabin and manhandled him.

Patankar afterwards resigned.

What prompted the attack was BJP member in the transport committee, Ajay Joshi, voting for the rebel Shiv Sena nominee Sailesh Bhagat who was backed by the NCP-Congress. Bhagat won the election.

Incidentally, Mokashi was elected as deputy mayor unopposed only today, after which Patankar filed the police complaint against him and others.

Mokashi has already got an anticipatory bail from Thane court yesterday.
