The police today registered a case against BJP's Rajkot district president D K Sakhiya and eight others for allegedly abetting the suicide of a businessman.

Ramesh Gamdha, owner of an oil mill in Lodhika area, allegedly drank pesticide at his house a week ago. He died at a private hospital three days back, said deputy superintendent of police D M Chauhan who is investigating the case.

In her complaint to Lodhika police, Gamdha's wife Jignaben alleged that her husband ended his life due to harassment from the BJP leader and others over repayment of a loan.

Her husband had borrowed Rs 51 crore from Sakhiya and others for his business, she said, alleging that even after he repaid the whole amount with interest, Sakhiya and others demanded more money and even threatened to kill his nephew.

"We have registered FIR against Sakhiya and eight others, including Sakhiya's son Rajesh, for abetting Gamdha's suicide," said Chauhan, adding that no one has been arrested yet.

Sakhiya had said earlier that he was innocent and Gamdha family was trying to malign his image to spoil his political career.
