The case on legality of appointment of parliamentary secretaries is pending in Supreme Court, Mizoram Parliamentary Affairs Minister R Romawia told the assembly today.
In a written reply to a query from Lalruatkima of Mizo National Front (MNF), Romawia said the apex court was yet to give any ruling on whether appointment of parliamentary secretaries were unconstitutional or not.
He said Mizoram began to have parliamentary secretaries from the sixth legislative assembly (2008-2009) who were appointed under relevant sections of the Mizoram Parliamentary Secretaries (Appointment, Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2009.
They were given the status of ministers of state and may attend the meeting of the council of ministers if the chief Minister felt that their presence in the meeting was required, he said.
