Cash award SHG fighting liquor addiction in Bihar

Appreciating its campaign against liquor, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced Rs 1 lakh cash reward to the self help group fighting against alcohol addiction in a village.

The award money will be deposited in their corpus fund, the CM said addressing a function against liquor consumption.

Kumar said that on November 26, 2010 when he had assumed power in the state for the second time, he had announced to observe the day as anti-liquor day in the state.

He said in a bid to lower liquor consumption, the government has launched a comprehensive campaign and even made liquor costly.
 

Kumar said there has been no increase in number of licensed liquor shops in the past three years.

He also said that order has been given for crackdown on people selling liquor illegally through unauthorised betel shops and other outlets and from next year, country liquor will be packed in transparent bottle and not in pouch.

Excise minister Bijendra Yadav spoke about ills of liquor consumption and asked people to leave the "killer" habit.
