Claiming that the Congress-led UPA is heading to a 'massive' defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BJP Vice-President Bandaru Dattatryea today urged party workers in Kerala to equip themselves for a spirited battle.

"The UPA rule is responsible for the economic breakdown and spiralling price rise. People in all parts of the country are keen for a change and this offers a good chance of the NDA to gain power," Dattatreya said at the inaugural session of the two-day meeting of the state executive of BJP here.

The BJP leader said the party's task in Kerala was all the more grim since it had to fight two well-entrenched coalitions--the ruling Congress-led UDF and the opposition CPI(M)-led LDF.

Still, the party could do a miracle by cashing in on the "deep resentment" the electorate had towards the two fronts and their search for a credible alternative, he said.

BJP state President V Muraleedharan, national secretary P K Krishnadas, senior leaders O Rajagopal and C K Padmanabhan and state functionaries are attending the meeting, being held to work out the strategies for the parliament elections.

Some of the internal issues of the party in the state are also to figure in the discussions to iron out differences before the polls.
