Barely few hours ahead of the second and last phase of polling in 11 Lok Sabha and 77 Assembly seats in Odisha, police today seized Rs 64 lakh in Cuttack and 38,004 litre of liquor.

During a check, Rs 5 lakh in cash was seized from a vehicle at Belleview and Rs 59,500 from a car at Bajrakabati Road, police said.

"Though the motive behind the transportation of such a big amount of cash in vehicles is not known, we are investigating all angles including whether the cash was meant to lure voters," Cuttack DCP Sanjib Arora said.

In both cases, the drivers were unable give satisfactory answer, he said.

Sources in the CEO's office said 38,004 litre of liquor was seized by excise officials and 1,790 persons were arrested for illegally storing it.
