Castor seed prices went down by Rs 12 to Rs 4,569 per quintal in futures trade today as operators cut down holdings, tracking lower physical market cues.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castor seed for delivery in September contracts moved down by Rs 12, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 4,569 per quintal with an open interest of 17,130 lots.

Similarly, the contracts for delivery in August contracts traded lower by Rs 11, or 0.24 per cent, to Rs 4,535 per quintal in an open interest of 1,28,160 lots.

Marketmen said cutting down of positions by speculators amid weakness in the spot markets due to fading demand from consuming industries along with ample stocks on consistent arrivals from producing areas, led to the fall in castor seed futures prices.
