Castor seed prices dropped by Rs 30 to Rs 4,447 per quintal in futures trading today on account of fresh liquidation by participants.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, castor seed for delivery in January slipped by Rs 30, or 0.67 per cent, to Rs 4,447 per quintal, with an open interest of 75,430 lots.

Also, castor seed to be delivered in December fell by Rs 20, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 4,420 per quintal, having an open interest of 2,390 lots.

Marketmen said cutting down of positions by speculators, triggered by a weak trend in the physical market on persistent arrivals from growing belts and slackened demand at higher levels, weighed on castor seed prices.
