Castor seed prices slumped by Rs 51 to Rs 4,250 per quintal in futures trade today as holdings shrank, in sync with a weak trend at the domestic as also overseas markets.
Market players attributed the fall to lower bets by participants due to sluggish domestic as well as export demand amid higher supplies from producing belts.
At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, castor seed for delivery in June slumped by Rs 51, or 1.19 per cent, to Rs 4,250 per quintal, with an open interest of 7,850 lots.
Castor seed for the most-active delivery in July dropped by Rs 45, or 1.03 per cent, to Rs 4,344 per quintal in an open interest of 90,060 lots.
