Castorseed prices fell sharply by 1.44 per cent to Rs 4,781 per quintal in futures trade today on participants reducing positions following weak export demand amid increased supplies in spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castorseed prices for delivery in January next year went down by Rs.70, or 1.44 per cent to Rs 4,781 per quintal, having an open interest of 1,37,550 lots.

On similar lines, castorseed for most-active December month contracts slipped by Rs 66, or 1.38 per cent to Rs 4,712 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 2,84,410 lots.

Marketmen said fall in demand from consuming industries and exporters in spot markets against increased supplies, mainly put pressure on castorseed prices in futures trade.
