The CAT ambulance service was paralysed in the national capital as 250 contractual workers and ambulance drivers went on strike today.

The Delhi government's Central Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance service remained paralysed in all 11 zones of the city.

According to Narendra Lakda, the president of the CATS contractual employees union, since the operations have been outsourced to a private company, there has been gross violation of labour laws and exploitation of employees.

"Since the operations have been outsourced to a private company, the employees are being exploited and there is a gross violation of labour laws.

"Also, salaries are not paid in time and we are forced to run those ambulances which do not have proper equipments," Lakda said.

The members said that if their demands were not met, they may continue the strike for an indefinite period.
