The Catholic communities of Jamshedpur today organised a prayer service to show their solidarity with the Christians of Lahore and the nun of Jesus and Mary Convent in West Bengal's Ranaghat, who was assaulted by a gang.

They also strongly condemned attack and vandalism on an under-construction church in Kaimri village in Hisar district of Haryana and against the growing trend of attacks on the Christian community and places of worship.

The church welcomed the re-assurance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed "deep concern" over the gang rape of a 71-year-old nun in West Bengal's Nadia district and the vandalisation of a church in Hisar, Haryana.

The church also welcomed the concern expressed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who had said that his ministry would do anything to protect minorities and take strong action against those attacking religious places.

But the country's Christian community, and particularly the Jamshedpur Diocese that has organised today's prayer service, sought more than just expression of concern and pleaded for quick action against the culprits, and a stern warning with strict implementation of law on those who are disturbing destroying the social fabric of India.

The event's main coordinator was Father Camille Hembrom, while other dignitaries present included Bishop Felix Toppo, Mahila Sangh, and all the sisters of education and religious institution, parish priests, church leaders, pastors and the entire Christian congregation.

The programme was attended by over 5,000 people including women, nuns and sisters and other members of the Christian community.
