Cattle smugglers fire at members of cow protection group

Suspected cow smugglers allegedly opened fire on members of a cow protection group and some policemen at Ballabgarh here.

In the incident which took place last night at Sector 2, six members of a local 'Gau Seva Raksha Samiti' were attacked and fired upon by the accused when they intercepted them as they were allegedly loading cattle onto a vehicle, police said.

One of the members of the cow protection group was injured in the incident, they said.

Upon receiving information, the police tried to chase the accused but they fired at them and escaped from the scene, leaving the vehicle behind.
 

A cow and a bull were recovered from the vehicle, police said, adding, a case has been registered against unidentified persons and further investigation is on.
