Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today accused the AINRC Chief N Rangasamy of 'colluding' with the BJP and compromising the interests of Karaikal farmers in Cauvery issue.

Speaking to reporters here, the Chief Minister said instead of pressing its ally BJP and the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), the AINRC was remaining silent and 'ignoring' the interests of farmers of the region.

Referring to the steep increase in fuel prices, Narayanasamy charged the Centre with not taking the suffering of common man into consideration and alleged that it was not prepared to cut the excise duty, which was hiked several times since 2014.

To a query on protests against the MARG Karaikal Port, Narayanasamy said stringent action would be taken if the coal handling operations of the port caused environmental pollution.

Following the February 16 Supreme Court verdict, neighbouring Tamil Nadu has been insisting that the court's order to the Centre to formulate a "scheme" referred to the setting up of the CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC).

The Tamil Nadu government had recently moved the top court, seeking contempt action against the Centre for its "failure" to frame the scheme for the constitution of the CMB and the CWRC within six weeks from February 16.

The court had on April 9 asked the Centre to frame a draft Cauvery management scheme and file it by May 3 for the implementation of its order on water distribution.
