CBI arrests excise inspector

An Inspector of Central Excise in Roorkee (Uttarakhand) has been arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3500 from a businessman, agency spokesperson said here today.

She said a case was registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against an Inspector of Central Excise, Roorkee on a complaint.

"It was alleged that the Inspector was demanding a sum of Rs 3500 from the complainant for registration of his firm with Service Tax Department of Central Excise. CBI laid a trap and the Inspector was arrested in his office while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3500," the spokesperson said.
 

She said the arrested accused was today produced in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Dehradun and remanded to judicial custody.
