CBI arrests proclaimed offender after nine-year-old chase

CBI today arrested a proclaimed offender from Hyderabad after a nine-year-old chase in connection with a group society scam.

Vinod Kumar Aggrawal was a member and secretary of SB Youth, a Co-operative Group Housing Society which was revived and allotted land by the officers of the Registrar, Cooperative Society, Government of Delhi.

The officers of the SB Youth Society in connivance with the officials of the RCS "dishonestly and fraudulently" added new members who were not eligible.

CBI spokesperson said that Aggarwal had been absconding right from the time the inquiry was initiated by the agency in 2006.

"On conclusion of investigation, a chargesheet was filed against Aggrawal on January 4, 2008 in Patiala House Court, Delhi. Aggrawal was declared a Proclaimed Offender by the court in December 2013," a CBI official said.
 

The official said that a team was sent from Delhi to Hyderabad to apprehend Aggarwal after getting a tip off.

"After intensive efforts and continuous surveillance, Vinod Kumar Aggrawal was apprehended by CBI. He was produced before Judge, CBI cases Hyderabad who has given transit remand for producing him before the concerned court in New Delhi.

"Aggrawal is being brought to Delhi from Hyderabad and will be produced in the court tomorrow," the official said.
