CBI arrests top bank official

An official of the United Bank of India, who allegedly caused a loss of Rs 93 crore to the bank, was arrested by CBI today.

Pranab Kumar Roy, UBI General Manager, had allegedly violated norms, abused his official position and caused a loss of Rs 9.44 crore to the bank in one case.

This was in connection with granting a loan of Rs 20 crore to a private company for its ethanol turnkey project, a CBI's Anti Corruption Branch release here said.

Roy is also allegedly involved in many other bank fraud cases in different places.

These are being investigated by CBI branches at Chennai and Bangalore.
 

"The amount of wrongful loss incurred to the bank in all these cases due to abuse of his official position is Rs 93 crores."

He was produced before a CBI court and remanded to judicial custody.
