CBI books IRS officer, MLA husband over corruption charges

The CBI has registered a case against an Indian Revenue Officer and her MLA husband for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 1.1 crore which was 22 per cent over their net income.

The CBI FIR has alleged that T H Vijaya Lakshmi, an IRS officer and Commissioner Income Tax for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and her husband A Suresh, a YSR Congress MLA from Santhanuthalapadu, Andhra Pradesh, have accumulated assets to the tune of Rs 5.95 crore against an income of Rs 4.84 crore between the period April 1, 2010, and February 29, 2016.

The couple has amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 1.11 crore which is 22.86 per cent over and above the income earned by them which they cannot satisfactorily account for, the FIR alleged.
 

The agency has booked the couple under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
