CBI sources said today that in 2011 Vijay Patel, a Head Technician at Central Railway and Archana Mehta, a resident of Nagpur, in collusion with a private employment agency and its Directors Ramesh Khairwar and Birendra Singh allegedly cheated over 100 people.
The sources said the two accused allegedly lured people with offer of a government job in Railways and other departments and collected over Rs 29 lakh from them. They also allegedly provided the victims with fake appointment letters and carried out their medical examinations as well.
A case has been registered under IPC sections relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and relevant provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act. Patel and Mehta have since been arrested.
"It was alleged in the FIR that the accused persons have collected Rs 29 lakh (approx) through cash and cheques from the complainants in lieu of getting job in Central Railway. Thereafter, on completion of the medical examination at Mumbai, the candidates were given fake appointment letters including the complainant," CBI spokesperson said here.
The spokesperson said when complainants enquired with the Central Railway about their recruitment and appointment letter, they were told that the Central Railway has not published any advertisement for such appointments.
"Incriminating documents related to the case i.E fake recruitment letters; list of candidates and appointment letters and letter heads of various departments including Railways were recovered," the official said.
